what else to do when whichever way I cross it

I can’t get you off my mind

    and the smoke billows

    in the room

    where you once

    taught me how to play

    darts for the first time

    with paint filled condoms

    thinking we’d rob the fairstand

    of every prize with practice

and we still never made it.

Got lost in you for decades instead and you never once took me to the fair,

thinking I deserved the seasonal festival.

    it took a school bus

and one seat behind you rode with me every time.

    secret lover.

    long distance friend

    by mere

    badger weasel scent detection

    techniques.

    how uncanny.

    ‘”I can smell it –

but I never had your number,

    only pen names.
