Betrayal leaves at the concept, only to be nourished by a healthy fugue.

Sudden disarray casts its shadow and subtle shine, as two winds blow cowardly in opposite directions. Only to reach a stalemate.

One composed, and the other shatters. Destruction amongst strength, at every even sight of defeat.

At least, they take turns.

(Requires, Minor Introduction)

“Formidable foe, if I were you,
I’d give up the game, now.
Not very soon, now.
Let us create our own.
That way, we’re both entertained.
Equal chances of winning.
Defeat, inadmissible
yet, Fair.”

“I’ll think about it.”

  1. (Hey, Sam. I tried commenting earlier but it didn’t post. I’ll give it another try.)

I like the oppositions here (“healthy fugue,” opposing winds, “shadow and sublime shine,” “composed”/”shatters,” “destruction”/”strength”) and how they sort of balance out in a stalemate. I couldn’t help but be reminded of chess, and not only because of the word “stalemate.” The “Minor Introduction” sets up the game, and I was amused by the final line: “I’ll think about it…” Also, I love the tone of the entire piece, and how it changes in the “Minor Introduction” section.

    Excellent writing, my friend. 😊
