No Room for the Long Distance

Strange occurrence.

Sat in the car and kept a brave face.

Unlocked, the tears didn’t spill until the door was closed.

Some affliction.

Stress, otherwise.

I was stressed out you didn’t sleep next to me.

The inevitable insomnia.

My tossing, turning, snoring.

I know it gets to you.

I had a nightmare about you and I wondered how you were doing on the couch.

I stayed right there, like you said.

Until I awoke only twenty minutes later, and the bed was empty.

So empty, I kept looking around.

It makes the world feel too large when I’m in there.

You never tell me anything unless it comes up.

I’ll miss you, I guess.

Even if I know it’s not a guess.

I didn’t have the confidence to leave that part off.

Questioning faith and now,

See you on the flipside.

Expected order, and I still took it badly.

You’ll do good out there.
